About the festival

Allt ljus på Uppsala – a festival of light, change and hope for the future

From 7 to 23 November 2025, as darkness falls over Uppsala, the city centre is transformed into a landscape of living light art. Magical installations illuminate streets, squares and facades – inviting you to experience the city in a new way. Allt ljus på Uppsala is a celebration of creativity, community and reflection, where artists from around the world help us see Uppsala through new eyes.

The theme for 2025 is “The promise of change” – an exploration of the power and potential of transformation. Through light, sound and stories, emotions are stirred, thoughts are sparked and conversations begin about our role in creating a more sustainable future. Bring someone you care about – or come on your own. Explore, experience, and be part of a brighter tomorrow.

About the Light Festival

Allt ljus på Uppsala is an annual light festival that brightens the city during three weeks in November. With artistic light installations in public spaces, the festival offers new perspectives, emotions and conversations. It is a creative collaboration between artists, the city and the audience – with a focus on sustainability, community and transformation.

The festival has illuminated Uppsala’s city centre since 2008. Initially held every other year, it has been an annual event since 2018 – except for 2020, when the pandemic caused a temporary pause. The goal has always been the same: to invite residents and visitors to rediscover the city in the darkest season of the year.

Together with local businesses and organisations, we invite everyone to experience the heart of Uppsala with fresh eyes – with family, friends, colleagues, neighbours or on your own.
