Here you’ll find practical information and answers to the most common questions about Allt ljus på Uppsala 2025.

When are the light artworks illuminated?

The festival runs every day from 7–23 November, 16:00–22:00.

Which artworks are included in the festival?

See this year’s light installations.

Does it cost anything to visit the festival?

No – it’s free to stroll through the city and enjoy all the light artworks. There may be a fee if you choose to book certain partner activities.

Where can I find a map?

A digital map is available on the website.

An interactive map and the artworks are also available in the app Uppsala konst och kulturarv, which shows where the artworks are and follows your position in real time.
Download the app on Google Play or App Store.

How to use the guide in the app

  1. Start the guide and allow the app to access your location and enable notifications.
  2. When you are close to an artwork, you’ll receive a notification.
  3. To reset the guide and start over, tap “Rensa.”

You can also borrow a printed map from the Allt ljus på Uppsala mailboxes around the city, or pick one up at the
Contact Center in City Hall or at one of Uppsala’s InfoPoints.

Why are the artworks numbered?

The numbering suggests a walking route of about 3 km. You don’t need to follow the numbers; each artwork stands on its own. Visit them all or pick your favorites.

How far apart are the artworks?

Distances vary. Check the map to see where this year’s artworks are placed.

Is there anything else happening besides the artworks?

Yes! Uppsala offers concerts, art, and exhibitions. Combine your festival visit with a restaurant, café, exhibition, or concert.
Check the calendar as the festival approaches.

Regarding the heightened security situation

We have long worked systematically with safety and security. We collaborate with authorities and regional actors to ensure safety in society and specifically at our event.

A more sustainable light festival

Sustainability is a key part of our work on Allt ljus på Uppsala, and we actively strive to make the festival as sustainable as possible.

  • How you can contribute: Walk, cycle, or use public transport to the festival.
  • Waste and recycling: Use the bins provided and sort your waste.
  • Printed maps: Reuse or return your printed map.
  • Save energy: Turn off electronic equipment at home during your visit.

Sustainable artworks

Artworks are chosen based on creativity, location suitability, and sustainability.

Reduced energy use

The artworks are illuminated 16:00–22:00. Our goal is to keep total energy consumption below 2,000 kWh, comparable to a typical villa’s monthly usage.

Greentime’s “Hållbart evenemang”

We use Greentime’s Sustainable Event Tool based on the UN Global Goals to minimize our ecological footprint.

Who organizes and funds Allt ljus på Uppsala?

Allt ljus på Uppsala is a collaboration between
Uppsala Municipality,
Uppsala City, and the local business community.
Destination Uppsala manages the project and communications. Sponsors cover about 60% of the financing.

Why organize a light festival?

The purpose of Allt ljus på Uppsala is to contribute to a safe and attractive city to live, work, and spend time in, while increasing local tourism and community engagement.

Will access be restricted anywhere?

During installation and dismantling, access may be limited in certain places. Follow on-site signage and show consideration.

Any transport recommendations?

Please walk, cycle, or use public transport to reach Allt ljus på Uppsala.

How do I report a fault?

If an artwork appears damaged or isn’t functioning, please email
alltljuspauppsala@uppsala.se.

Are the areas around the artworks accessible?

Yes, as far as possible. Many works can be viewed from a distance—sometimes that’s even the best vantage point.

When did Allt ljus på Uppsala start?

Allt ljus på Uppsala has been held since 2008—initially every other year, and annually since 2018. The 2020 festival was cancelled due to the pandemic.
