About

In Cast Away, things that have already been used are given a new life. What has been discarded is brought into view again, not as it once was, but in a new form. Through light and shadow, new shapes, movements and ways of seeing emerge.

The installation has a quiet presence and carries an idea of transformation and possibility. Transformation does not have to begin with something new. It can begin with what is already there – what is worn, rejected or left behind. As light falls across the surfaces, shadows emerge that carry traces of what has been, while also pointing towards something else.

Cast Away is made from reused materials collected along the coast. As the installation is now exhibited in Uppsala, the story of giving new life to what already exists continues. Here, the artwork itself becomes part of the same cycle.

What possibilities do you see in what is already there?

Uppsala Vatten och Avfall

Uppsala Vatten och Avfall works every day with the resources and services that need to be managed for society to function, both now and over time.

For Uppsala Vatten och Avfall, waste is a resource. Something that has been used does not have to reach the end of its life – it can become something new. While the installation explores transformation through light, shadow and materials given a new form, Uppsala Vatten och Avfall applies the same idea in its everyday work: seeing possibilities in what already exists, making the most of resources and giving new value to things that might otherwise go to waste.

Circular thinking is about more than materials and objects. It is about using our resources wisely and keeping them in use for as long as possible. By reducing waste and increasing reuse, we can work together to conserve the Earth’s resources.

Together, we keep the cycle going.
