Not everyone has a place where they can feel safe and know that they belong. Many people experiencing social vulnerability cannot take even the most basic things for granted, such as being seen and acknowledged.
Fifth Element centres on this very idea. In the installation’s shimmering imagery, we sense a presence that seems to reach out to you, the viewer. But who is really seeing whom? And what does it mean when someone actually stops and looks back?

Sh bygg, sten och anläggning is one of Sweden’s oldest family-owned construction and civil engineering companies. The company is involved in building the new Mikaelsgården for Uppsala Stadsmission, a non-profit organisation that supports people experiencing vulnerability in Uppsala.
Mikaelsgården will be a safe place for people experiencing vulnerability, homelessness and loneliness in Uppsala. Here, people will be able to access things that many of us take for granted: food, warmth, a sense of community and support in their contact with public authorities and healthcare services. Mikaelsgården will be a place where people can simply be human.
