We often think that we are the ones driving change. But just as often, it is change that carries us. It moves us forward, backward, sideways — sometimes to places we never knew we were heading. It can feel threatening. Or hopeful. Or both. The only certain thing is that nothing ever stands completely still. And perhaps it is within that movement that the promise of new possibilities lies. Royal Sky hovers above the city as a symbol — light, fluid, ever-changing. In its dance with the wind, we’re reminded that we don’t always have to understand change. But we still need to face it. Uppsala is changing — just like us. Our city has evolved since it was founded more than 700 years ago. What was once new eventually becomes a natural part of the place we call home. Right now, we’re standing on the threshold of major shifts: new tracks, new neighbourhoods, new ways to travel, connect, and live. But the future is shaped not only by plans, but also by expectations, values, and dreams. What kind of future do you dream of — for yourself, and for Uppsala?
Behind Royal Sky stands a Latvian team with the ability to lift our gaze – both literally and figuratively. The work combines lightness and dignity, opening a dialogue about future, movement, and change. Artistic Latvia creates light works, installations, and site-specific experiences that invite audiences to see the city’s spaces in new ways. Their art is often large-scale and technically advanced – yet infused with a poetic sensibility that leaves room for interpretation.
