Spin me a yarn aims to encourage you to think critically and act consciously to reduce your ecological footprint. In today’s society, fabric and yarn production, along with clothing manufacturing, are often associated with high greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts. The global fashion industry has a massive effect on our planet, from enormous carbon emissions to the pollution of water and land from the nearly 100 billion garments produced every year.

We all share a responsibility to reduce our environmental impact and shape a more sustainable future. This artwork is a call to each individual to reflect on their choices and the consequences. How you consume, what materials you choose, and how you care for your clothes directly impact the environment.

The installation highlights these issues and aims to inspire you to actively reduce your footprint and promote a more eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle. By visualizing the abstract and often invisible aspects of our environmental impact, the artwork seeks to evoke emotions and encourage change, where everyone takes responsibility and strives for a lifestyle that respects and protects our planet.

Light host: Uppsala vatten & avfall

How can you be part of the solution? The light installation is presented by Uppsala Vatten. By making conscious choices, you can contribute to more sustainable development and a greener lifestyle. How many clothes do you really need to buy? Can you purchase second-hand or borrow clothes from others? Can you care for your clothes so they last longer and recycle them when they can no longer be worn? Together, we can reduce water, chemical, and energy consumption—and our ecological footprints on the planet.
